The Anat Baniel Method® of Neuromovement® is a holistic approach to learning where movement is used as a vehicle to communicate with the brain.
Neuroplasticity is relatively new in the world of science. As such, many modalities and therapies have not moved away from treatments intended for a concrete brain. ABM Neuromovement® practitioners know the brain can change, and with that notion the impossible has now become possible. With this knowledge that the brain has the capacity to grow and transform, no disease, injury or limitation has a definite prognosis. Whether you struggle with movement limitations, cognitive challenges, or performance obstacles, take note that there is no limit to your potential.
An Anat Baniel Method of Neuromovement® lesson is intentionally crafted to create an ideal learning environment for you as the student. In the lesson I will guide you using touch and/or verbal instructions through a movement sequence. Your awareness of your own habits will become heightened and with this awareness will begin the process of change. I will introduce you to functional movement variations that will expand your movement repertoire. This sensory information has the potential to create new neural pathways in your brain or wake up old pathways that have become dormant due to stress, trauma, habits, or disease. There is no correcting, no assessing, no flow charts or spread sheets. This method is process based with a focus on finding comfort and ease. Without gadgets or tools I use my hands to touch and connect with your current organization. This can be quite settling and healing to the nervous system. I lead you through early developmental movement patterns and functional movements exploring your current efficiency. By exploring, you already will begin to shift, as you notice and learn about yourself.
As you progress I will gently increase the demand but only to a level that ensures success. The brain thrives on success and your desire to continue to learn will be ignited. Clients often report feeling lighter, more flexible, more physically capable and perform better. Most importantly, their own confidence in their mind and body is restored.
These lessons are done on a table and fully clothed. Clients can visit me in my Cumberland studio or in the comfort of their homes (+travel fee). Lessons are often conducted in an intensive series, small frequent bursts of information, to maximize learning outcomes. For more information on the Anat Baniel Method® of Neuromovement® read here.
to Athletes & Musicians
ABM Neuromovement® addresses habits and encourages change. Athletes, due to their rigorous training and competitive schedules are highly prone to rigid habits that may be less than ideal. Herein lies an approach to movement that is slow, gentle and works with your system to explore variations that may be easier and more efficient. Individually crafted lessons will cater to your specific sport and habits within that sport.
ABM Neuromovement® can be transformational to the quality of an athlete’s movement and outcomes. The focus is on improving the process of movement. This can include eradicating unnecessary efforts and simplifying complex movement patterns. The focus is on HOW movement is being organized. How could it be easier? How could it be more efficient? How could it be more graceful?
Benefits are seen not only in physical performance but in mental clarity and confidence as well. Neuromovement® lessons are demanding not only physically but on the mental capacity of the athlete. Taking time to become attuned with oneself on a table in a quiet and peaceful setting provides the sensory information needed to be able to connect in the midst of competition.
***Lessons are ideally conducted in off season, or a time when workout/training intensity is significantly lower. See above for lesson details.
“I met Michelle while on vacation and upon hearing about my two years of chronic feet pain, she insisted I try a treatment (which I was already convinced might help). I had tried all forms of therapy up to this point. So, amidst interruptions from bats, lizards and crying babies Michelle lead my body through the motions. My feet have never looked back (actually they have moments of wanting to, but I am able to change their behavior by using the tools Michelle shared with me). I highly recommend Michelle’s lessons!!!”
“After years of having nagging pains and trying all kinds of treatment types, I luckily found Michelle and learned about ABM. The lessons are so subtle, but they have made a huge difference in my well-being and movement. It feels like you are not doing much at all – but that is the magic of it! Instead of pushing and pulling to stretch out tight muscles or being manipulated to treat an ache or pain, changes are made gently, in a state of ease, and by you. Michelle is wonderful to work with – very kind, knowledgeable, and supportive – I am so grateful for all that she has taught me”
“My wife was seeing Michelle following the birth of our son and recommended I go see her for a number of chronic injuries that I have been struggling to manage. Michelle put me at ease instantly, and thoroughly explained how she approaches healing and gained my trust within minutes. Results were slow to come, but she stressed patience and doing less where I had always tried to do more. It has been 5 weeks since my last session with her, and I am now seeing the results she told me would come…patience, persistence and focus have allowed me to find a better way to move…I am enjoying continuing to implement what she was able to teach me in only a few visits. Thanks Michelle, it has been a real pleasure to work with you.”
“I am pregnant with my second child due in a few months. Due to my acute back pain I was afraid to move, which made me tense and my pain even worse, I even had to call in sick to work. After just one ABM lesson, I was able to move more freely again and return to work. It was like my brain had to be reminded how it felt to move my body without pain in order to heal, and be pain free.“
